Evaluation Criteria
Evaluation Criteria for Divorce and Family Lawyers
We first analyze the firm’s knowledge of general family issues with regard to the legal processes for adoption, divorce, child custody, and other family issues. We also review their ability to handle the creation of various legal documents such prenuptial agreements, divorce decrees, and other various documents.
Next we assess the firm’s ability to handle adoption processes. Do the attorneys handle the paperwork and give advice on the legal responsibilities of adoption? Does the firm understand the necessary requirements of adoption?
Then we review the firm’s work in custody rights cases during the divorce, separation, or the death of both parents of a child. Do the attorneys work with families to help establish a legal guardian or to allow a parent to regain legal custody of their child?
Another aspect of our evaluation focuses specifically on divorce cases. How effective is the firm at representing their client in the dissolution of a marriage? Does the firm have a good understanding of standard state law with regard to divorce? We assess their ability to provide quality legal counsel to their clients.
The final focus is on cases of domestic violence. Do the attorneys work with law enforcement to aid in cases dealing with the abuse of a family member to protect the victim legally? Does the firm understand laws with regard to restraining orders and orders of protection? Does the firm handle any civil actions such as lawsuits or divorce with more sensitivity making sure the client is protected both inside and outside of court?
