Overview

Attorney John Matson is a native of Worcester, MA and earned his BA from Tufts University in 1965. Upon graduation from college John served in the United States Army in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service.

Service in the military triggered John’s interest in the law and after his Honorable Discharge from the service he entered Suffolk University Law School. John was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1971 and was initially employed as a Staff Attorney at the Board of Veterans Appeals with the Veterans Administration in Washington, DC. Attorney Matson then worked in government relations with a trade association while pursuing his Masters of Law degree at George Washington University.

In 1974 Attorney Matson moved to Westborough, MA where he resides today. He served as a government relations attorney for a state wide trade association until 1979 when he joined the law department at Wyman Gordon Company in Worcester, MA. At Wyman Gordon Attorney Matson handled a wide variety of corporate and government relations matters.

In 1987 Attorney Matson founded his own law firm in Westborough, MA serving individuals with legal needs in real estate, family law, and criminal defense areas. Having marked twenty years in private practice Attorney Matson’s focus remains the areas of real estate law, family law, and small business law. Attorney Matson is a member of the Real Estate Bar Association of Massachusetts, the Worcester County Bar Association and the Massachusetts Bar Association (MBA). In 2006 he was named a Life Fellow of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, the charitable arm of the MBA.

With a long standing interest and involvement in the community Attorney Matson served on the town finance committee for eleven years with a stint as Chairperson and was elected member of the Charter Commission serving as Chair for two years. He currently serves as Registrar of Voters for the town of Westborough, and was involved for a number of years with the Boy Scouts. Attorney Matson ran for the MA State Senate in 1994. He is married and has two grown children. His son is an attorney and his daughter a nurse practitioner.
