Case Study Summary new

Slaughter and May supports three London law centres: Islington Law Centre, Battersea Law Centre and University House Legal Advice Centre. We provide the centres with strategic and financial help and teams of volunteers for their evening sessions. Our Pensions and Employment group also provides a rota of volunteers for weekly employment advice clinics....

Description:

Law centres exist to ensure that everyone has access to legal advice, whatever their financial circumstances. They employ lawyers to deal with clients during the day and use volunteer lawyers from local firms to staff evening sessions. Clients are advised, free of charge, on a wide variety of issues ranging from small claims, consumer law and housing to immigration, family law and benefits.

All of our volunteers receive ongoing training and support to ensure that they can provide legal advice of the highest quality: we hold in-house training sessions on key topics at least twice a year and volunteers are invited to attend additional sessions organised by LawWorks.

"The commitment of the firm is tremendous. Their help enables us to assist literally hundreds of additional clients each year"

Ruth Hayes, the Islington Law Centre Director
