Shane is the eldest son of Alfred and Joan Mattingly of Leonardtown, Maryland. Alfred is a retired lineman and supervisor with C&P Telephone. Alfred also founded the Singletree housing development in Leonardtown. Joan is a retired registered nurse with the St. Mary's County Health Department. Shane has a younger brother, Brian, who is employed as a civil servant with the federal government in Lexington Park.
Shane was raised on a small farm just outside of Leonardtown where his family grew soybeans, wheat and corn. On September 4, 2004, Shane wed his lovely wife, Heidi, who is a Practice Administrator with Southern Maryland Orthopedic and Sports Medicine in Leonardtown.
